The Secret Garden environmental and activity centre, is organizing a series of events to promote awarness about conservation problems.
We also have a number of projects ready for action to help the current situation, such as:
•Organising sport tournaments and group activities on the Secret Gardens’ grounds for all Koh Tao’s kids to practice, learn and play on. This means people, time, equipment, skills and money are needed which sounds like a lot, but it’s all possible with a little help from our friends! This will give local children a chance to bond and be together with other kids and most of all, will keep them off the streets, safe and healthy whilst teaching and helping them develop in a positive way.
•Re-planting trees on the mountain tops and where logging, building and cutting have taken place. You may not see it from below, but there are a lot of trees missing…
The trees on our hilltops are vital to this Island and to us!
They keep us safe from floods in monsoon season; they break and protect us from strong winds, stop soil running off into the surrounding seas and killing the reefs, provide food and shelter for animals and give oxygen for us all!
•To actively support, with your help, the Koh Tao Animal Clinic in buying medical supplies to stop the spreading of viruses such as: E.G. Rabies and parvovirus.
Medical supplies and constant funds are also needed for birth control and general treatment of: E.G. viruses, road accidents and poisonings.
•To organise a weekly Sairee Beach clean-up, involving volunteers and paid staff.
Not much to explain, as you well know, but a lot to do and if it works, implement on all of Koh Taos’ beaches!!
And this is where you come in...we would like you to be part of it!
Come and help us making these projects happen, even just an hour a week of your time could make a huge difference!! Here's how we see it:
There are more than 100 businesses owned or run by non-Thai investors
On Koh Tao, on average, most businesses have 5 employees,
We’re looking at a potential 500 people conservation army…
What if only ten people would dedicate one hour a week to conservation?
Well, not good you may say, good enough is what we say…
Ten hours, ten different people, twenty legs, twenty arms, twenty eyes
Ten very good hearts! Do numbers add up any good now?
No not really, you can say…fair enough…then, try this:
Two people can spend an hour at the animal clinic,
helping out with any duty that can take precious time and attention away from what matter most.
You could go and collect donations, distribute the clinic’s information flyer
Or even learn what to do and not to do about cats and dogs,
So to help promoting all that the animal clinic is working very hard for…
Four people could spend an hour every week
Helping the building and running of the kids’ project…
Two people can help us cleaning the beach every week…
Two people could come to plant trees where logging has taken place,
Or spend an hour a week even from home, and be of help!
Making a conservation web site for us, searching the net for new
Ways to improve our present and future projects, collecting precious
Conservation stats and useful information, you could look for sponsors,
Donators, which could help the projects…
Ten people, ten hours, four good reasons to get together and help…
Is not about how much time you dedicate to conservation,
It’s about what you do with that time that makes all the difference!
Now, Imagine if each of those ten people, have a friend or family to bring along… We’re now twice as many people, twice s many hours, twice as many projects…
It’s that simple; however you look at conservation numbers, as long as you looking at some, they will always add up well, conservation it’s about saving, never loosing,
It’s about people, people that create, not destroy!
